Sprayable Bioactive Dressings for Skin Wounds: Recent Developments and Future Prospects

The skin, as the body's main protection barrier from environment, has an intrinsic self-repairable nature. However, proper wound healing only occurs under appropriate conditions. Skin wounds represent economic burden on healthcare systems worldwide. Recent research focused developing new therapies, especially for chronic wounds. Among them, spray-applied therapies have emerged a promising strategy allowing deeper penetration of products, better conformability, easiness application, lower discomfort patient, and risk contamination during application. Specifically, sprayable dressings been getting attention enabling treatment severe cases or hard-to-heal by incorporating different bioactive agents. Organic inorganic compounds, natural extracts, signaling live human cells investigated. In this context, review summarizes findings recently developed dressings.
